Direct Messages on Instagram

There are two ways to send message on Instagram directly to a user – you can either use Instagram Direct message service or do it from your recipient’s profile page.

  1. On the app’s home page locate Direct Message Instagram icon – it looks like a paper plane, img see the top right corner of the screen. Tap it to open the messaging service’s screen.
  2. Tap ‘New message’ img at the bottom of the screen.
    Choose a person to talk to – they can be many.
  3. Compose a message or tap the photo icon to the left of the text entry field to share a photo.
    Tap ‘Send’ or the arrow icon in the corner, if you are sharing a picture.


Use Your Recipient’s Profile


  1. Go to your recipient’s profile page – use either Search feature or just scroll through your newsfeed till you hit one of their posts and tap their name.
  2. On the Profile page tap the three dots symbol img in the top right corner.
    In the menu displayed choose ‘Send message’.
  3. Step 3 are no different from step 3 described above.

    Sending a notification to their Direct inbox is more efficient than tagging them in comments and it provides better privacy.

  • It also makes it simpler to suggest accounts, hashtags and location pages to your friends.
    For hashtags and location pages click the curved arrow in the top right corner of the screen; for accounts tap the three dots symbol and select ‘Share this profile’. The rest is easy.
